Long before the band formed, Granduciel and his friend Julian came up with the name The War On Drugs after drinking some red wine. When Granduciel formed the band, he used it, partly because it didn’t imply any particular genre. It had a feeling to it that seemed to encapsulate rock ‘n’ roll like ‘war’ and ‘drugs.
