How does IR seeker work?
An IR seeker works by using a sensor to search for IR radiation emitted and reflected by potential targets. IR seekers are passive and do not emit signals, unlike active radar seekers, and so there is a reduced chance of detection by the target aircraft’s defensive aid suite.
What is IIR seeker?
IIR Seeker is one of the most important subsystems and plays a vital role during terminal phase for high altitude target engagement. Before testing the hardware IIR seeker, its behavior is modeled in high end computer with real time features and various interfaces (i.e. MIL- STD 1553B, RS-422 etc.).
How are infrared missiles detected?
To detect approaching missiles, the rocket motor of the missile must be burning – it requires the high effective burning temperatures associated with solid fuel rocket motors. IR-based systems are probably better at altitude but UV is better against surface-to-air missiles.

It is fairly realistic. Many missiles are guided by heat detection and other methods. The exhaust of a jet engine is hot, so a sharp turn toward a missile can hide the hot part of your airplane.
How missile lock is detected?
With a semi-active radar homing system, the launch platform acquires the target with its search radar. When the passive radar of the missile’s guidance system is able to “see”/detect the radio waves reflected from the target, missile lock-on is achieved and the weapon is ready to be launched.
Can helicopters detect missiles?
Modern military aircraft have Radar Warning Receivers (RWR) that monitor all of the known frequencies being used by friendly and enemy missile systems. When the RWR detects a hostile tracking frequency, it will alert the pilot that they are “locked on”.

What is the difference between Scan and con scan?
Scanning is carried out identically to the con-scan, which causes the image of the target to scan across each of the detectors in turn. For a target centered in the FOV, the image circles around the detectors and crosses them at the same relative point.
Why was the conical scan system replaced with monopulse?
Potential failure modes and susceptibility to deception jamming led to the replacement of conical scan systems with monopulse radar sets. They are still used by the Deep Space Network for maintaining communications links to space probes.
