The book Life of Pi by Yann Martel shows the relationship between man and animal. Originally, animals were only seen as food or predators. However, they soon evolved into work animals, and eventually the animals were kept for companionship, rather than work. Humans learned the value of companionship with animals.
How does Pi survive physically?
He doesn’t eat meat and he was unable to kill animals. However, during the process to survive, Pi transfers from a vegetarian to eat meat. When Pi finds some survival supplies in the lifeboat, he immediately drinks some can water and eat animal fat enhanced biscuits.

Pi was glad because he was able to salvage a part of his past. Richard Parker represented his family’s legacy, and because his entire family had perished at sea, saving the tiger was a priority.
