What is the difference between seachem matrix and DeNitrate?
Since de*nitrate is smaller, it requires a very slow flow to maintain an anaerobic environment. A heavy flow would turn de*nitrate into a nitrification-only system, like bio-balls. Matrix, on the other hand, is large enough to have both a nitrification area on the surface and a denitrification area in the interior.
How much DeNitrate do I need?
Seachem Denitrate is best put in the filter of your aquarium. Each 1 liter bottle is ideal for a 100 gallon tank.
How long does it take for seachem DeNitrate to work?
Since denitrate™ works by a biological process, it requires about one to two weeks before the process is effective. Likewise, the useful life of the product is not determined by active sites, but by water clarity and the product’s capacity to become occluded by particulates.
Can you have too much seachem Matrix?
You can either use half or all of it, I don’t think you can overdose: it’s just biomedia for bacteria to colonize. I suspect you can put it almost anywhere in the sump where it will get decent flow.
Does Matrix remove nitrates?
This allows Matrix™, unlike other forms of biomedia, to remove nitrate along with ammonia and nitrite, simultaneously and in the same filter. Since the majority of the bacteria are internal, Matrix™ may be rinsed when needed without damaging the filter. Matrix™ is compatible with all types of wet or wet-dry filters.
What is the difference between Purigen and Matrix?
In terms of removing nitrates, Matrix is the better of the two products mentioned in this comparison guide. Seachem Purigen works more as a preventative measure as it traps decomposing organic matter in the aquarium to significantly slow down the growth of ammonia, nitrite and nitrate concentrations.
Does seachem Denitrate need to be replaced?
A: de❊nitrate™ is a biomedia, meaning it does not exhaust over time, so you should never need to replace it. That said it is possible for de❊nitrate™ to become clogged up with detritus and slime, so we recommend prefiltering the water using a sponge or filter floss to extend the useful life of the product.
How long does Seachem De Nitrate last?
All Seachem® chemical filter medias work extremely quickly, which means that if they are given infinite amounts of contaminant to absorb, they will exhaust very quickly. However, if an aquarium has a more “average” level of contaminants, most Seachem® filter medias will last a month or more.
How does seachem matrix work?
Seachem Matrix works like any other bio media. It provides surface area for bacteria to grow on in order to convert ammonia to nitrite and nitrite to nitrate. It does this very well and I would put that down to its huge surface area. That means that there are small (tiny) holes in the stone where bacteria can live.
