What is Tg for FR4?
The standard FR4 Tg is between 130 – 140°C, the median Tg is 150 °C and the high Tg is greater than 170°C. In the hot state, high Tg FR4 will have better mechanical and chemical resistance to heat and moisture than standard FR4.
What is glass transition temperature in PCB?
Tg or Glass transition temperature, is the base material parameter for the temperature (°C). It defines at what temperature the base material becomes mechanically unstable. Tg is the temperature value that guarantees the mechanical stability of the PCB during operational life time of the PCB.
What is Tg and TD?
Tg is expressed in units of degrees Celsius (ºC). Decomposition Temperature (Td) Decomposition temperature, or Td, is the temperature at which a PCB material chemically decomposes (the material loses at least 5% of mass). Like Tg, Td is expressed in units of degrees Celsius (ºC).
What is FR4 made of?
FR4 is a glass fiber epoxy laminate. It is the most commonly used PCB material. A 1.60mm FR4 uses 8 layers of (7628) glass fiber material. The red UL/manufacturers logo is in the middle (layer 4).
Does FR4 melt?
Fire retardant type 4 (FR-4) boards can resist up to 120 degrees Centigrade (248 degrees Fahrenheit) before melting. Temperatures over this limit will cause the board to melt, but the damage from the heat will remain in the heated area; flames will not spread to the rest of the board.
Is FR4 organic?
The rigid printed board substrates we commonly use are organic substrates, such as FR-4 epoxy glass fiber cloth substrate, which uses epoxy resin as the adhesive and electronic grade glass fiber cloth as the reinforcing material.
What color is FR4?
FR4 COLORS: BLACK, BLUE, YELLOW, RED, ORANGE & TAN AS WELL AS NATURAL (other colors available upon request) Colored FR4 is available in black, blue, yellow, and natural.
How strong is FR4?
It is well-known as one of the strongest plastic materials available. As we’ve written in this blog before, FR-4 rivals the strength of some metals. The Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTI) of FR-4 is 45,000 PSI while the UTI of cast iron is 29,000 PSI. Copper comes in at 31,900 PSI and aluminum is 43,500 PSI.
Is FR4 a thermoplastic?
FR4 is a thermoset plastic. That means that it is similar to car tires and that it cannot be remelted down and made into something else. This is because of the material makeup. Thermoplastic materials can be melted down and made into something else.
