What is a background consent form?
A background check authorization form is a release given to allow someone else to perform credit and criminal background checks. A person that is agreeing to have their information looked-up must provide consent to the requesting party.
What if HireRight can’t verify?
Discrepancies between the information provided by the candidate and returned by HireRight generally will be noted on the background report. If HireRight is not able to verify your information via the previous employer, then HireRight may ask you to provide a W-2 or other document as proof of your work history.
How does HireRight contact previous employers?
Using phone or email to directly contact the previous employer, or by using the employer’s designated automated verification service, the agency may verify these facts:
- Start and end dates of employment.
- Position / job title.
- Salary (when requested by the employer and provided by the company)
How long does it take to hear back from HireRight?
This depends on the nature and scope of the background check your current or potential employer has requested. An average employment screening check will typically take between 10-15 working days. However, this may be extended depending on circumstances beyond our control.
How do you write a consent letter for a background check?
I, [Insert applicant name] hereby authorize [Insert company name] (the “Company”) of [Insert company address] and/or its agents to make investigation of my background, references, character, past employment, consumer reports, education, and criminal history record information which may be in any state or local files.
What is on the FCRA background check?

Does HireRight show termination?
In the United States, there is an option for HireRight to ask an employer for the reason for termination and whether the applicant is eligible for rehire. In the United States, HireRight will not report a salary discrepancy unless the hourly rate does not match.
What documents do HireRight ask for?
You may also need to provide copies of documents. This is dependent upon the checks that are required but may include ID documents such as passport or ID card, proof of address such as a utility bill, and documents supporting your employment or academic history as outlined above.
Do we have permission to contact this current employer at this time HireRight?
HireRight will never contact your current employer without your permission first.
Why is HireRight taking so long?
However, a background check may take longer for a variety of reasons including the following: HireRight has difficulty establishing contact with your former employers or educational institutions. Non-US employers and education institutions similarly may require additional time to respond to a verification request.
Should I authorize a background check?
You don’t have to give your permission, but if you’re applying for a job and you don’t give your permission, the employer may reject your application. If an employer gets a background report on you without your permission, contact the FTC (see below). You also should tell the employer about the mistake.
