What grade is DOM tubing?
3 grade
DOM Tubing (Drawn over Mandrel) is a cold drawn 1020 to 1026 or ST52. 3 grade electric resistance welded tube with all the flash removed prior to drawing to size. Cold drawing DOM to size allows for higher yield and tensile strengths. In comparison to other tubing, DOM is produced to more exact OD and ID tolerances.
What is the difference between Dom and chromoly?
From the research I have done, chromoly is generally 20-25% lighter than DOM. The reason for this is only because chromoly is stronger so you can use a thinner wall tubing and have the same strength. It would be interesting to see the difference.
What is stronger Dom or chromoly?
Is DOM tubing measured ID or OD?
As previously mentioned, tubing is measured by its outside diameter or dimensions and the wall thickness. For example, we like to use 1.75 inch x . 120-wall DOM. That has an OD of 1.75 inches and 1/8 inch wall thickness.
What is ASTM A513 Type 5 carbon tubing?
It covers carbon steel grades starting at 1008 and higher in addition to specified alloy steels and can be classified Type1 (Hot Rolled Electric Resistance Welded), Type 2 (cold rolled) and Type 5 (Drawn Over Mandrel). ASTM A513 Type 5 Tube is a Drawn Over Mandrel (DOM) tubing product which has closer OD/ID/Wall Tolerances than ERW products.
Why choose Dom tubing A513 Type 5?
DOM A513 Type 5 is a preferred choice for a wide range of mechanical tubing applications because it combines the advantages of closely controlled dimensions (OD/ID/Wall), superior concentricity, and a uniform wall thickness. In addition, DOM tubing offers smooth OD and ID surfaces, high mechanical properties, and excellent machinability.
What is dom type 5 tubing made of?
ASTM A513 Type 5 Tube is a Drawn Over Mandrel (DOM) tubing product which has closer OD/ID/Wall Tolerances than ERW products. Produced from 1020 and 1026 steel. Commonly used in the automotive, appliance and construction industries. MANG. MIN.
What are the chemical properties of Dom 1026 tubing?
