What is the difference between BMW Longlife 01 and 04?
Engine oils with the approval BMW Longlife 01 are particularly suitable for petrol and diesel vehicles without diesel particulate filters. In contrast to oils with the release BMW Longlife 04 they do not have a Low SAPS character. Due to the increased pollutant emissions, they are not suitable for cars with DPF.
Is Castrol EDGE OK for BMW?

It’s the viscosity or “flowability” or thinness of any oil that determines it’s fuel economy improvement capacity. The quality of these oils is comparable to that of Longlife-04 and Longlife-01 FE oils and these oils can be used in most BMW engines. Hope this helps, I personally would drain and fill with LL-01.

Registered. The Castrol oil that BMW used to spec was midway between a 30 and 40 weight. Anything from 0W30 to 5W40 will be fine if it has the LL-98 or LL-01 rating. You don’t even need that if you are running shorter change intervals.
