What are fender eyelets?
Once upon a time, most bicycle frames and forks were made with holes (threaded or non-threaded) for attaching fenders and/or racks. These are commonly called “fender eyelets”.
Can fenders be added to any bike?
Bicycle fenders are not a one-size-fits-all accessory. They not only differ depending on your riding discipline and bike type, some bikes may not be compatible with a set of fenders at all.
Do fenders bolt on?
Yes, there’s a reason automakers fit fender flares on top-trim versions of their cars and trucks at the factory. While installation varies slightly from product to product, all of them use either bolts sized specifically for factory holes along the wheel arches, and/or double-sided adhesive.
Are clip on mudguards good?
Clip-ons are another option if your bike doesn’t have eyelets. While clip-on mudguards give decent coverage, they’re not as comprehensive as full-length mudguards. If your bike doesn’t have eyelets, and you cannot use one of the aforementioned workarounds, clip-on mudguards are your next best bet.
Are fenders good for bikes?

How do you install a fender?
How To Install Fenders
- Remove wheel.
- Unfasten and remove brake caliper from fork crown. Position fender mounting tab between fork crown and caliper. Reattach wheel.
- Attach wire fender stabilizers to fork end eyelets using included nuts and bolts.
- Adjust stabilizer length to prevent tire rub.
- Repeat for rear fender.
