Why did Susannah cut her hair?
The point where Susannah cuts her hair is when she knows that all authorities are aligning to kill Tristan. Perhaps as a twofold symbolic gesture — a prayer that Tristan will survive, and a statement of the futility of her own liberation — she cuts her hair, and adds an exclamation point by blowing out her brains.
