Place value is connected to the 4 Number Relationships I really believe in building our students flexibility with numbers and that happens when we build their number sense and place value; understanding place value is a part of that number sense. And I believe we need them for all numbers, even fractions, decimals.

How can I improve my number sense?

  1. Practice counting and grouping objects. Then add to, subtract from, or divide the groups into smaller groups to practice operations.
  2. Work on estimating.
  3. Talk about relationships between quantities.
  4. Build in opportunities to talk about time.
