There are three main ways to acquire promotions for units:
- Earning enough Experience for a unit to gain a level. It may then acquire one of the generic promotions listed below.
- Building certain Wonders, such as Alhambra.
- Adopting certain social policies or ideological tenets.

How do you discover El Dorado in Civ 5?
El Dorado is found only in forest and jungle tiles. The quickest way to find it is to start a game on a huge skirmish map with jungle as the primary terrain, and starting in the Information Era. When the game begins, adopt all of the social policies in Rationalism, which will grant you a free technology.
Can Keshiks capture cities?
Although its attack strength is a bit weaker than that of both the standard Knight and the Arabian Camel Archer, it has other advantages: it acquires more experience than the other units, and contributes double the amount of points towards earning Khans. Also, Keshiks do not receive a penalty when attacking cities.
