How do you know if Kribensis are breeding?
Sexing P. pulcher is not hard because adult females display brighter belly colors than the males. During breeding periods, a female’s belly develops the characteristic cherry red coloration. She is also smaller than the male, but at first glance can appear to be the larger of the two.
How long does it take for Kribensis to lay eggs?
After the eggs have been fertilized, the Mother guards over them fanning the eggs to keep them clean until they are hatched. She prefers to lay her eggs eggs hatch, usually within three days of the spawning. Once hatched the male may begin to harass the female.
Do kribs eat their babies?
Normally, Kribensis will not eat their babies, they are generally fantastic parents. However, there can be factors that cause the parents to eat their fry. These include an unexpected disturbance in the tank, the presents of a predictor fish, or lack of food to raise the fry.
How many kribs can be kept together?
The only problem with keeping them in a community tank is that they become extremely territorial during breeding. They are fabulous parents, which unfortunately includes a great deal of aggression. This can be avoided by keeping only one Kribensis or same sex pairs or groups.
How many Kribensis should I get?
You can keep two kribensis cichlids in a minimum tank size of 20 gallons, but if you can manage a larger one, in the range of 30 to 50 gallons, your fish will enjoy it even more.
Can Kribensis live with guppies?
Yes, Kribensis can live with guppies. In fact, having active fish like guppies in with Kribensis can actually help your Kribensis feel safe and encourage them to spend more time out in the open. The guppies will act as a dither fish, reassuring the Kribensis that the aquarium is free from predators.
How many babies do kribs have?
She stays inside the cave guarding the eggs, while the male is left outside to patrol the territory. She will clean the eggs and remove any fungused ones. Brood sizes vary widely from as few as 30 eggs to as many as 300 in some instances.
