How do you check weld strength in Ansys?
You can easily identify your fillet or butt welds in the model, set the weld throat thickness, select one (or all) load case and let the program do the strength safety factor calculation according to Eurocode 3 [2] or other user defined codes. You can also let the program calculate the minimum weld thickness.
How is weld stress calculated?
To estimate the weld strength:
- Multiply the size of weld and weld strength.
- Divide the maximum permissible tensile stress by the above product.
- Multiply the resultant by 0.707 to obtain the length of the weld joint.
Why is my mesh failed Ansys?
For the error, please use right click on the error and click on ‘problematic geometry’. This will highlight geometry which is failing to mesh. You will need to modify geometry at this location or change mesh sizing. If your meshing has special controls like periodicity, please check if those are correctly defined.
How should I decide which mesh to use in Ansys?
Choosing a suitable mesh size
- Perform chosen analysis for several different mesh sizes.
- Notice where high deformations or high stresses occur, perhaps it is worth to refine mesh in those regions.
- Collect data from analysis of each mesh: outcome, number of nodes in the model, computing time.
What is the peak Weld force in ANSYS DesignXplorer?
Finally, the Workbench model takes advantage of Ansys DesignXplorer with Snippets similar to a previous post to test the sensitivity of mesh size. The White Paper by Weaver has the peak weld force/length (f w) at 2,390lbf/in from hand calculation at the top (page 5).
What is the force/length of the Ansys model?
While the Ansys Model peaked at 2,775lbf/in for 10 elements along the weld line (WELDFORCE10.txt), as the number of elements increased, so too did the force/length.
How many spot and seam welds are in a frame?
For example, a typical automotive frame structure could contain a few thousand individual spot welds, while the chassis structure of an off-road vehicle could contain several dozen seam welds. Ansys Mechanical has enables users to create and model spot and seam welds in an efficient, automated manner.
What are the challenges in the analysis of welds?
A particular challenge in the analysis of welded structures is in the creation and meshing of welds for analysis. For example, a typical automotive frame structure could contain a few thousand individual spot welds, while the chassis structure of an off-road vehicle could contain several dozen seam welds.
