How do I treat an open wound on my breast?
Clean your wound daily with soap and water or as directed by your healthcare professional. Rinse the area well and pat the wound and surrounding skin dry; don’t rub the wound. Always use new dressings, gauze, or bandages. Don’t pick at or try to remove scabs.
How long do breast wounds take to heal?
Most people find that their wounds take about 2 to 3 weeks to heal. The area may be bruised and swollen at first. This will get better and the scar will look lighter and flatter in time. You can usually shower after 48 hours if you have a waterproof dressing.
Can dirty bras cause infection?
Personal hygiene habits can also put you at higher risk. Not rinsing and towel-drying the area around and under your breasts may trigger a yeast infection in these areas. Wearing an unsupportive bra may lead to a yeast infection as well.

Malignant wounds result from cancerous cells invading the skin and its lymph and blood vessels. They cause tissue to die, which can lead to inflammation and result in infection, bleeding, odour and drainage from the wound. Sometimes the wound becomes very painful.
