How do I start the lost expedition?
The Lost Expedition
- This quest is initiated by finding Alethius’ notes on his body while exploring Nchuand-Zel Excavation Site in Markarth (Understone Keep).
- Destroy the large web just to the south of Alethius’ body to get access to Nchuand-Zel.
Where is stromm?
Stromm was a Breton conjurer and a scholar studying the Dwemer. His corpse can be found inside the Nchuand-Zel Quarters.
How do you get into Nchuand-Zel?
To reach the Nchuand-Zel Excavation Site, enter Understone Keep and immediately go to the left. Climb a small hill and continue going straight. Climb the set of four stairs, which lead to a larger flight of stairs. At the top of the second set of stairs is the entrance to the excavation site.
How do I get out of Nchuand-Zel quarters?
To get out of Nchuand-Zel, the Dragonborn should swim across the cavern and take the pathway back upwards. To complete the quest, the Dragonborn must speak to Calcelmo in Markarth Keep.

Is there anything in Nchuand-Zel?
Nchuand-Zel is littered with Dwemer artifacts which can be smelted into Dwarven metal ingots for the enterprising smith. There is enough salvage to create over three-hundred ingots. In the armory, behind an Expert-locked gate on the right of the Centurion statue, is a full set of Dwarven Armor.

Where is the Nchuand-Zel Armory?
Head back up to where you just came from and turn left (south) onto another small platform, down to the bottom level where there is an Adept-locked gate with a chest inside. From here you can swim to the Nchuand-Zel Armoury on the west wall.
