How big do giant triops get?
Unlike the tiny Sea Monkeys, Triops grow to be about three inches long, they are much more active, and they really do do tricks. Plus they dig in the sand, fight with each other, and pick things up and carry them around.
How many triops is a gallon?
The container should be at least four litre (one gallon) in size if at all possible. Each adult triops needs between two to four liters of water for optimal population density. If you cannot provide them with a larger container, don’t worry too much.
How do you get triops?
Hatching the Eggs
- Fill a shallow container with 300ml of bottled spring water.
- Add one teaspoon of leaf litter to the container of water.
- Add in about 20 eggs.
- Keep the hatching container in a warm place with bright light.
- The eggs should hatch in 24 to 48 hours under the right conditions.

Can triops breathe air?
Triops like all aquatic creatures breath Oxygen which is dissolved in the water. The Oxygen gets into the water at the surface where water meets the air. The good thing is that Triops don’t need a lot of air, but like all creatures they will live longer and grow better if there is plenty of air for them to breath.
Will my triops lay eggs?
Triops do not become pregnant, but rather lay eggs. Monitor your triops regularly to determine when new ones will be born. Wait for the eggs around the hermaphrodites’ and female’s legs to disappear.
What kind of light do triops need?
Place a heat lamp above the tank to keep the water between 72 and 84 °F (22 and 29 °C). Because Triops need warm water to hatch and thrive, set a lamp over the top of the tank to maintain a mild water temperature. Position either a fluorescent or incandescent light about 12 inches (30 cm) above the water.
