Has Manevac been discontinued?
Manevac® granules 250g and 400g pack sizes are out of stock until 30 September 2020 and February 2021 respectively. Individual components of Manevac® are available (ispaghula husk 3.5-gram sachets and senna tablets 7.5mg).
When should I take Manevac granules?
The usual dose for adults, the elderly and children over 12 years is one or two level measuring spoons OR one or two sachets (equivalent to 5g or 10g of granules respectively) once a day at night. But do not take it immediately before bedtime. Take the dose at least ½ to 1 hour before or after taking other medicines.

How do I take it?
- Manevac granules should be placed dry on the tongue and, without chewing or crushing, swallowed with a drink of water, milk or fruit juice.
- Adults and children over 12 years of age should take one or two level 5ml spoonfuls of granules once a day, in the evening.

Each 5 g dose contains: 2.6 g Ispaghula seed (Plantago ovata Forssk.); 0.11g Ispaghula husk (Plantago ovata Forssk); 0.34 – 0.66g Tinnevelly Senna fruit (Cassia angustifolia Vahl), corresponding to 15 mg hydroxyanthracene glycosides calculated as sennoside B.
How do you take Normacol granules?
To take Normacol, put the dry granules on your tongue from the sachet, spoon or your hand, or just take a few at a time if that is easier. Alternatively you can sprinkle Normacol on to soft food such as yoghurt.
What are Manevac granules?
Brown, sugar-coated granules. For short-term relief of occasional constipation. For oral administration.
Why is senna given at night?
Senna normally causes a bowel movement within 6 to 12 hours, so it may be taken at bedtime to produce a bowel movement the next day.
