Do JE pistons come with rings?
If your JE pistons have a job or part number, simply call JE, provide that number, and they’ll get rings coming to you!
Can I use oversize piston rings?
If the ring is oversized then in all probability the ring and piston combination will not fit into the cylinder at all, as at the point at which the ring end gap closes to zero, the OD of the ring will exceed the ID of the cylinder. Even baby oil won’t suffice to stick that in there.
Do I need oversize rings after honing?
Usually “honing” on a plated cylinder just cleans out the gunk and makes it rough enough to seat a new set of rings. However if it was a sleeved cylinder that’s a different story, and honing can take away enough material to require an over sized piston.
Does honing a cylinder make it bigger?
Yes! Honing operation enlarges the hole slightly.
How do I know if I need oversized piston rings?
Ring gap of more than . 008″ per inch of cylinder bore indicates an oversize cylinder and oversize rings may want to be considered.
Do you have to hone cylinders when replacing rings?
More often than not, you will need to hone your cylinder when replacing the piston rings. That is because honing creates small crosshatches in the surface of the cylinder, to allow the wall of the component to retain oil and provide lubrication for the piston ring.
Can I reuse my pistons?
One option for reducing the cost of an engine overhaul rebuild is to reuse the pistons. The pistons are typically the single most expensive part in a rebuild kit. Taking them out can make the kit affordable for nearly everyone’s budget.
Does boring out an engine increase horsepower?
From a performance standpoint, boring an engine could give you more horsepower and torque, as it will change the engine’s displacement. In general, the greater your engine’s displacement, the more power it can create. Lower displacement may result in greater fuel economy.
Where are SRP pistons made?
SRP PRO pistons utilize dedicated forgings that are forged and machined in the USA in JE’s Mentor, Ohio production facility.
