What is the purpose of fanfold insulation?

Its purpose is to provide thermal protection and to form a second barrier between the elements and the framing.
Is fanfold a vapor barrier?
Its closed-cell structure reduces the absorption and migration of moisture, and the facers surfaces are nearly impervious to moisture. Not a vapor barrier.
Is house wrap the same as insulation?
Insulation comes with an R-Value. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating power. House wrap is designed to keep rain outside exterior walls but allow water vapor from inside the house to escape. Like insulation, it may be added as a layer inside external walls.
Is fanfold insulation waterproof?
Fanfold DWB can be applied directly over any compatible damproofing or waterproofing membrane. 3 Compatibility of the membrane and adhesive with polystyrene should be verified prior to use. Moisture Resistance Fanfold DWB is non-perforated and closed cell which provides excellent resistance to moisture absorption.
What is the R value of fanfold insulation?
R-Tech Fanfold 1/2 inch thick Roof Underlayment/EPS Insulation with Foil, 1.25 Density Type VIII, White Faced one Side, Foil on the Other, UL Listed, R-Value R-Value 2.27 @25F.
Should you tape fanfold insulation?
To be an effective weather-resistive barrier, though, the seams of the fan-fold must be carefully taped, since any seam can provide a pathway for water to reach the structure under the foam. As long as the foam is not foil-faced, the best tape is contractor’s tape from 3M.
