Ririe provides an exceptional and diverse fishery for anglers. Springtime is a great time to troll for kokanee and rainbow trout, although bank anglers have success for trout from Blacktail Park on the southern end of the reservoir.
When was Ririe Dam built?
Constructed between 1970 and 1977 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps), Ririe Dam serves the principal purpose of flood control on Willow and Sand Creeks. Ririe Dam and Reservoir is approximately 15 miles northeast of Idaho Falls.
Is kokanee good to eat?
Kokanee is best eaten just before the spawning stage. Their flesh is the dazzling bright orange that many anglers long for, and it is richer in flavor than trout but softer than other salmon. Even if you butterfly or fillet your Kokanee, leave the skin on when you grill it.
