brasher, renowned for its archetypal brown walking boot, will be subsumed into the Berghaus brand from next year. Both are owned by Pentland, and the brasher brand has struggled as a business in recent years, despite a loyal following for its boots. It also has plans to expand the brand as footwear internationally.

How long do Brasher boots last?
No boots will last 10 years now. I get an average of 2 years (50-60 hills) out of boots but I do walk on my forefoot more so the tread wears quicker at the front. The Berghaus Hillmasters are super comfortable.

Somewhat depends on what you’re going to use them for, but Gore-Tex is probably better. Leather tends to be more durable, however it’s either completely waterproof or not waterproof at all. If you use waterproof leather it’ll keep water out of your boots, but will also keep the sweat in.

Are Brasher boots narrow?
It has to be said that the Hillmaster seems quite narrow at first, but once your foot is in the boot, the full leather interior lining feels very comfortable. While this makes the Hillmaster less versatile than other walking boots, it is exceptionally good in this specialised role.
