How long do glass rocks last in a fire pit?
The short answer is, quite a while! Since fire glass is heat resistant and does not melt, burn, or change color, it’s technically possible for it to last 20 years or more (wow!).
Do lava rocks hold heat better than glass?
Fire glass can produce more heat than lava rock, while lava rock is typically cheaper. Both have aesthetic values, and the choice between the two often comes down to personal preference.
What do you put under fire glass?
To fill the gap between the fire ring and the bottom of the fire pit we recommend using sand or Exotic Glass Base Filler to achieve this result. DO NOT use lava rock, lava pebbles, rocks / pebbles or any other porous material UNDER the fire glass.
Should fire glass cover the burner?
Should I cover the burner with fire glass, or should I leave it exposed? Yes, you should cover the burner — but only with just enough fire glass so that it’s not visible. This is especially true if you’re using a propane fire feature, since propane is heavier than air and needs to be dispersed close to the flame.
How do I know how much fire glass I need?
We recommend that you use 1–2 inches of fire glass to cover the burner, but be sure to not overfill your fireplace or fire pit. While fire glass is a great way to bring out the best in your fire feature, you can get even more ideas from our video on how to accessorize your gas fire pit.
What size fire glass is best?
We recommend using fire glass no larger than 1″ in size, particularly in the direct flame of your fire application. During the manufacturing process, air bubbles can form within the glass. The larger the piece of glass, the more air bubble concealed beneath the surface.
How often do you change fire glass?
Since it is designed as a decoration and not a fuel type there is much less stress on the product. There is no need to replace the fire glass every time a fire is list. It will not burn down like a natural log would and it stays beautiful for many wonderful nights by the fire.
Can I replace lava rocks with fire glass?
You use fire glass as a filler to replace your outdated lava rocks or fake ceramic logs. Fire glass is a great way to spruce up your fireplace or fire pit with so color and creativity to match the rest of your current decor.
Can I put lava rock under fire glass?
DO NOT use lava rock, lava pebbles, rocks / pebbles or any other porous material UNDER the fire glass. When building a propane fire pit, follow the same advice as listed above for natural gas but we HIGHLY recommend using a pan burner system to prevent the propane from sinking to the bottom of the pit.
Can you use glass rocks in a fire pit?
Fire pit lava rock and fire glass can be used to complement each other when used together in a propane or natural gas fire pit. Mixing lava rock and fire glass, or layering them on top of each other in a fire pit’s burner pan, are practical alternatives to using one or the other alone.
