What is FK filtering?
F-k filtering is when seismic data, that is traditionally in the time and displacement domain, is converted into the frequency and wave number (F-k) domain as seen in figure 1 below.
What is FK domain?
fk is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the Falkland Islands.
What is FK plot?
1. n. [Geophysics] A graphical technique to distinguish subsets of data according to their direction and velocity by plotting and contouring frequency and wavenumber.
What is Tau P domain?
The tau-p transform is a special case of radon transform where the data are decomposed as a series of straight lines which map to points in the tau-p domain. This technique also used to be referred to as slant-stacking since to produce the input data may be stacked along a series of straight lines in tau-p domain.
What is an FK plot?
What is wavelength and frequency?
The wavelength of a wave is the distance between any two corresponding points on adjacent waves. The frequency, represented by the Greek letter nu (ν), is the number of waves that pass a certain point in a specified amount of time. Typically, frequency is measured in units of cycles per second or waves per second.
Is frequency directly proportional to wavenumber?
For electromagnetic radiation in vacuum, wavenumber is directly proportional to frequency and to photon energy. Because of this, wavenumbers are used as a convenient unit of energy in spectroscopy.
What is c V lambda?
This example shows that knowing the frequency of an electromagnetic wave gives you the wavelength, since all electromagnetic waves travel at the speed of light so that c = v (lambda) where v is frequency and lambda is wavelength, and c is the speed of light.
What is f k filtering used for in seismic data?
F-k filtering is used for things like eliminating the aliasing surface-wave energy and maintain the low frequency information of the reflected waves, and attenuating the residual weak energy of ground roll. The main application for F-k filtering is to eliminate coherent noise in seismic data as exemplified by figure 3.
How to separate out a particular seismic event from the f-k spectrum?
The filtering can be applied to the F-K spectrum to separate out a particular seismic event, which is shown as a sloping linear trend of peaks on the F-K spectrum, as Vapp = df/dk . However, a reflection event shows as a curved hyperbola on the original section.
What is f-k filtering?
F-k filtering is when seismic data, that is traditionally in the time and displacement domain, is converted into the frequency and wave number (F-k) domain as seen in figure 1 below.
Why is spatial aliasing a problem with f-k filtering?
The F-K filtering only removes a radial fan of velocities on the F-K spectrum from the origin to the side of the spectrum. The spatial aliasing causes problems by completely failing to remove the second aliased part of the velocity event, which does not fall into the radial fan. This is one reason why the removal of surface waves was not perfect.
