Do you need underlay for underfloor heating?
The heating element is usually laid in a pattern onto your subfloor and we do not recommend you use an underlay with Electric (or dry) types of underfloor heating systems.

How thick is Tredaire underlay?
11mm thick
The Tredaire Dreamalk is an 11mm thick underlay. The thickness is designed to help cushion the flooring between the carpet and the sub floor. It also prolongs the life of the carpet. The density is approximately 110 kg/m3, which is a medium density when compared against other products.
How often should you change underlay?
Yes – you should invest in new carpet underlay almost every time you lay a new carpet. The only exception is if the current underlay is less than 12 months old or in excellent condition.

What is the best type of underlay?
PU foam
The best type of underlay for carpet is PU foam. It is the best option due its many advantages over alternative types of underlay such as its strong heat insulation abilities and the soft underfoot it provides. However, sponge rubber is another solid option.
Is 11mm underlay good?
This is one of the most common questions we get asked. In short, 9mm is generally best for high traffic areas such as stairs and 11mm is best for comfort areas.
