Where is Hockomock Swamp located?

The Hockomock Swamp is a vast wetland encompassing much of the northern part of southeastern Massachusetts. This 16,950-acre (6,859 ha) land is considered the largest freshwater swamp in the state. It acts as a natural flood control mechanism for the region.
Can you hunt in the Hockomock Swamp?
The Hockomock Swamp Wildlife Management Area provides public access to the swamp and to several recreational areas. Additional public and nonprofit lands are located within the ACEC. The area is popular for hunting, fishing, boating, canoeing, swimming, and for the observation and study of flora and fauna.
What is hockomock?
Hockomock is said to mean “Place where Spirits Dwell” in the Wampanoag language. The river arises in the Hockomock Swamp, and flows south to its confluence with the Town River, which eventually joins the Taunton River to empty into Mount Hope Bay.

Along Foundry Street, between Five Corners and the intersection of Rte. 138/Turnpike Street and Rte. 106, if you travel south into the woods you get into the swamp.
