How does pole vault competition work?
Competitors vault over a 4.5-metre long horizontal bar by sprinting along a runway and jamming a pole (usually made out of carbon fibre or fibreglass) against a ‘stop board’ at the back of a recessed metal ‘box’ sited centrally at the base of the uprights.
How do you judge a pole vault?
There are 4 judges that monitor a pole vaulting competition. The chief judge decides the starting height of the crossbar and officiates the takeoff area. A second judge is in charge of observing the runway and controlling the time limit for each participant.
