We’re a not-for-profit organisation Action for Children is a not-for-profit organisation. Any profit we make goes straight back into services that help children and families. It doesn’t go to shareholders or investors. As a charity, we have to keep some funds in reserve.

Who started Action for Children?
The organisation was founded 1869 as ‘The Children’s Home’ by Thomas Bowman Stephenson, a Methodist minister in London. It grew quite quickly and by 1908 was known as the National Children’s Home and Orphanage, then the National Children’s Home, then as NCH.

The Family Welfare Association (F.W.A.), founded in 1869 as the Society for Organising Charitable Relief and Repressing Mendicity and later (1871-1946) called the Charity Organisation Society and then Family Action.
