What is ARDA marred?
Arda Marred is an Elvish term for the world as it is: tainted by the evil of Morgoth. The damage sustained by Arda, and its creatures’ attempts to deal with it, form most of the drama of its history.

Why did the Elves leave Valinor?
The Elves felt compelled to leave Middle-earth because the Valar (deities of Tolkien’s world) were spiritually summoning them to their ultimate destinies. A number of high Elves exiled themselves from Valinor in order to wage war against Morgoth, who had killed one of their leaders and stolen from them.
Why did Arda become round?
In the canonical version, the Earth was created flat and was changed to round as a cataclysmic event during the Second Age in order to prevent direct access by Men to Valinor, home of the immortals.
