How do you repair damaged gelcoat?
Once the gelcoat has fully cured, sand the repair smooth (wet sanding works particularly well with gelcoat). You can start with 220-grit sandpaper and, for a really slick surface, finish with at least 400- or 600-grit. Finally, apply a coat of high-quality marine polish and your repair is complete.
What is the difference between laminating and non laminating gel coat?
The differences are in viscosity, mechanical properties when cured, UV resistance and maybe some additives. Laminating resins have to wet out fabrics fast, so they usually are on the runnier side.

Can you use polyester resin as a gelcoat?
Polyester finishing resin does contain wax, so it cures properly when it comes into contact with air. When this resin cures, you will have a hard, non-tacky finish that is ready for gelcoat, sanding, or painting applications.
Do I want gelcoat with or without wax?
Gelcoat is available with or without wax. To cure properly and completely, gelcoat needs to be devoid of oxygen. Other products such as PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) can also be applied over gelcoat without wax to cure it. PVA is commonly applied by brush or spraying.
