Can you throw light baits on a baitcaster?
Typically, 8 to 10-inches from lure to the rod tip works well with a baitcaster. However, when casting a really light lure, you can let out 2 to 2-1/2 feet of line, so that you can get more momentum on your cast, resulting in a great cast distance.
Why do I keep getting backlash on my baitcaster?
If a backlash occurs when the lure hits the ground, you need to tighten the brakes or spool tension. Fishing in the wind can cause baitcasters to backlash even when your reel’s brakes and spool tension are tightened down. The best way to avoid backlashes in this situation is to cast across or with the wind.
What baits to throw on a baitcaster?
I use a baitcaster with monofilament for topwater baits such as Zara Spooks, twitching suspended stickbaits and cranking in the shallows or at mid-depths. A baitcaster with fluorocarbon is my choice for jig fishing, Texas-rigged soft plastics and deep cranking.
Does braid backlash more than mono?
It comes in a much thinner diameter than mono allowing for better casting and greater line-reel capacity. The lack of memory is important as it means no rats’ nests and far less likely a chance of backlash (birds’ nests) when casting with a baitcasting rod. Braid is also more expensive than mono.
Why can’t I cast my baitcaster very far?
Spool Tensioner is too tight (cast control knob) Magnetic Break System set too high (dial on the “palm” side plate. Spool Break Collars set too heavy (internal brake system on the “palm-side” of the spool) Seize pinion/bearing (or bushings) (on both sides of the side plates.
Why do bass fishermen use Baitcasters?
spinnerbaits, or fishing in heavy weeds where you need strong line, Nels recommends baitcasters because they have more torque and handle heavy line better. Baitcaster’s are also more comfortable when pulling the rod tip down to side, as you would when fishing a jerkbait or Zara Spook.
