What skis for Haute Route?
The 87mm version is a good choice for Alps tours like the Chamonix to Zermatt Haute Route or Berner Oberland, where firm snow is not uncommon. Also for touring in the Sierra, New England or the Cascades, the 87mm is recommended. For a much, much lighter similar ski, the Volkl VTA88 Lite is an excellent choice.
How long does it take to ski the Haute Route?

The classic Haute Route usually takes six days/five nights, roughly over the following stages shown below. We also recommend a day in Chamonix before you start for you to meet your guide, do a gear check and practice your avalanche and glacier skills before starting.
Can you wild camp Haute Route?
The ability to camp while hiking the Walker’s Haute Route is possible, however the rules and regulations across the 2 countries and provinces make it difficult to find the right locations. The best option is to use a combination of campgrounds, near mountain huts and wild camping to complete your trip.
How much does Haute Route cost?
Using actual costs as of December 2020, I’ve calculated that once you arrive in Geneva Airport, you can hike the Walker’s Haute Route from: Camping: 870 CHF per person (~800 EUR) Solo in Dormitory: 1,380 CHF per person (~1,300 EUR) Double in Private Rooms (where possible): 1,600 CHF per person (~1,500 EUR)
How long does it take to do the Haute Route?
It can take between 6 and 15 days to complete the Walker’s Haute Route. Anything quicker requires Olympic speed walking or part trail running, anything longer is an indication that the hiker has multiple memory sticks full of photos and a mindfulness that others envy.
Can I do the Haute Route?
Elite Hikers: For those that are fastpacking or trail running sections, the Walker’s Haute Route could be completed in 6-8 days. Steady Hikers: For those that want to hike between 6-7 hours per day, at an average hiking pace, completing the Haute Route in 11-13 days is possible.
How do I train for Haute Route?
The plan requires 10 hours of training in the first week, progressing to 20 hours in the tenth week, with an increasing intensity as well. The Haute Route is famous for its’ climbs, so we need to make sure you have the strength to keep turning the pedals when the road heads upwards.
How do you train for a multi day bike ride?
If you’re a beginning rider, start your training by doing short loops of 12-15 miles from your home or on your favorite local bike trail. Once you’ve done that a few times, ride out 12-15 miles, take a break, then ride back. Later, ride out 30 miles, then ride back, taking a couple of short breaks along the way.
How many days a week should you bike?
To keep progressing and improving your fitness, you ideally need to be riding your bike every two to three days, even if it’s just a short turbo trainer workout. The minimum you can get away with and still see significant fitness gains is three rides a week.
Should you ride the day after a long ride?
After a long ride, you may even feel like lying on the couch all day, but a little movement will do you some good. Going for a leisurely ride the day after your big ride can help your body’s recovery process.
