What is anorectal disease?
Anorectal disorders are a group of medical disorders that occur at the junction of the anal canal and the rectum. Our surgeons are specially trained in diagnosing and treating a wide range of disorders of the rectum including diarrhea, hemorrhoids, abscesses, fistula, fissures, anal itching, warts and rectal prolapse.
What causes anorectal disease?
The most common causes of rectal bleeding include hemorrhoids, fissures, and polyps. Risk factors that often lead to further investigation include older age, family history of bowel disease or cancer, and the non-resolution of the bleeding after treatment of the suspected cause.
What is benign anorectal disease?
Benign anorectal conditions produce anal pain, rectal bleeding, or discharge from the perianal region, which are highly prevalent symptoms in the general population. Hemorrhoidal disease, anal fissure, perianal abscess, proctalgia syndromes, and pruritus anii are the most common clinical disorders.

The anal sphincter has an internal and external sphincter, or valve, which helps to control continence (passing) of stool. These valves are made of muscles that control the opening and closing of the anus. The test is performed to see how well it is working.
How do you do an Anoplasty?
The first step involves enlarging the opening where the stool drains, so stool can pass more easily. Surgery involves closing any small tube-like openings (fistulas), creating an anal opening, and putting the rectal pouch into the anal opening. This is called an anoplasty.
