Is the Crisis Text Line a charity?
Crisis Text Line is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in New York. Our mantra: transparency, transparency, transparency. Less than 10% of total income is spent on overhead (2018). This ensures that donations are spent directly on programs–making sure we maximize efforts reaching texters.
What can helplines do?
You can get immediate support and advice from a counsellor without having to make an appointment or travel somewhere. You don’t have to give your name, and most helplines don’t cost anything. People also see helplines as a way to feel in control of a situation.
How long does it take the Crisis Text Line to respond?
Our goal is to respond to every texter in under 5 minutes. During high volume times, like at night or when we “go viral” on social media, wait times may be longer.
