What months Can you take the FE exam?
The FE exam is given nationwide each year in four testing windows during the following months: January–February, April–May, July–August, and October–November.
How often can I take the FE exam?
NCEES allows examinees to take the exam once during each two-month period and up to three times per 12-month period.

Is the FE exam worth it?
In itself, the FE/EIT is not worth a whole lot. However, I tell all of the engineers I mentor to take it as soon as they are eligible. The key here is that the PE license is tremendously valuable in many areas of engineering. You never know where you will end up so it is best to take the FE/EIT so you are prepared.
Can you take the FE exam any day?
While you can register to take the FE Exam on any day of the year that the Pearson Vue testing center of your choice is open, you will have some attempt limits if you fail the exam. You can only attempt the FE Exam once within each of the following periods: January through March. April through June.
Is the FE exam open book?
The FE Exam is closed book because it’s a computer-based test. You cannot bring any books into the testing center. You do, however, get to access the electronic version of the 494-page Reference Handbook. It includes everything you’ll need to pass the FE Exam, plus it’s searchable, too!

A 55% pass rate is a hard exam, the hardest among the FE exams. The FE Mechanical exam now has the highest pass rate at 71% (see our chart in the next section below), and a 29% failure rate is something we consider very demanding.

What score do I need to pass the FE-CBT Civil exam? The required score to pass this exam is not a set number used yearly. Typically, scoring an estimated 50% of the exam correctly will result in a curved passing score (70%). However, exact percentiles will vary from year to year.
