honestly imho, it will not last 10 years unless you just never use it. If you are considering a 2015, get the EFI 37HP. Getting the most HP you can afford is the best rule of thumb as you will use it (especially when adding passengers or dealing with rough water).

How fast do gator tail motors go?
My personal experience: 1860 GTB (flotation) w/ stock 35 gtr in deep water ran 27 light load I could bump 28 occasionally. When I added a person or gear it dropped to 26 add another person 24-25 MPH w/ a full hunting load or fishing load.
Is surface or long tail drive better?
Surface-drive motors have a much shorter driveshaft than long-tail motors. In slightly deeper water, surface-drive motors develop more power and speed, making their top speed as much as 10-15 mph higher than a long-tail motor. The shorter driveshaft doesn’t offer quite as much reach during the most rugged conditions.
