The ring of beech trees that gave it its fame was first planted in 1760 by Charles Goring, around and just inside the ramparts. At the age of 16, he decided to beautify the site by planting it with trees, though the interior was left open at the time.

Can dogs go to Cissbury ring?
Whether walking with or without a dog this is a lovely walk. The area is very steep and access is via stiles so unsuitable for wheelchair access. My boys love this walk with the dog, one is 6 and the other in his teens. Wonderful views once up at the ring, breathtaking.
