What is an ECS test?
It’s designed to prevent accidents and promote safety and quality of work, to ensure all cardholders have a good level of health and safety awareness when on site. Unfortunately we cannot accept the CSCS H&S assessment, as the ECS test is specifically designed for health and safety relating to electrotechnical workers.

How long is the ECS test?
30 minutes
In order to pass the ECS Health and Safety test, a basic knowledge of electrical principles and procedures is required. The ECS test consists of 45 multiple choice questions, from which 38 must be answered correctly in order to successfully pass it. The allowed time is 30 minutes.

How many questions are on the ECS test?
The ECS Health Safety and Environmental Assessment contains 50 multiple choice questions to be answered in 30 minutes, you will need 43 correct answers to pass the assessment. The questions are randomly selected from a database of approximately 300 questions listed in the FREE revision guide (see below).
What is the pass mark for ECS test?

ECS test 2 Candidates sit an online assessment consisting of 45 multiple-choice questions, in 30 minutes. The pass mark is 85% ie 38 correct answers out of 45. Candidates will know their test results immediately the assessment is completed.
Is ECS the same as CSCS?
ECS stands for the Electrotechnical Certification Scheme – it’s a partner of the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), so anyone in an electrotechnical-related occupation who’s told ‘you need a CSCS card’ – the ECS scheme is the one to apply for.
How much does the ECS test cost?
The standard fee assuming you are not a member of either is £36 including VAT. The Health and Safety test is normally £42 but does vary between providers. Card renewals with less than 3 months until the expiry date cost £24 and a duplicate replacement if your current card has been misplaced is £18.

What qualifications do I need for an ECS card?
To apply for this card you must have JIB recognised UK competency based qualification (electrotechnical Level 3 NVQ or a formal UK electrotechnical apprenticeship) and hold a formal BS7671 qualification in the current edition of the wiring regulations in force when your application is made.
