What is MM pickup?
Magnetic pickups are the most common type of pickups used on electric guitars. A coil of wire wound around a magnetic core will generate an electric signal when a string made of magnetic material vibrates in the magnetic field. Magnetic pickups are used on all Ernie Ball Music Man electric guitars and basses.

Are Stingrays passive?
Active electronics for the Stingray is an onboard pre-amp and two- or three-band EQ. It does not appear that they come with a bypass switch so they can’t be played passive without after-market modifications. Looking at the specs (StingRay ), the Stingray has active electronics, not active pickups.
